SeattleBirthNet:  About Jodilyn?
Childbirth Education and Labor Support for Expectant Families
Born and raised in the Seattle area, it is my pleasure to be serving local
families and raising my own family locally.  My kids, husband, dog and I call
south Seattle our home.  My hobbies include hiking, boxing (working out
at the boxing gym, not actually boxing!), camping, and lazy summer days.
I also love planting seeds in the spring and enjoying colorful veggies in the
summer!  I can often be found driving a child to or from a basketball game, or
cleaning the kitchen (again!)

After attending college followed by my marriage I devoted myself to raising
our children.  I'm a VBAC Mama and this has led me to work with many mothers
who have had cesareans as they work their way towards their own VBAC.

As my children got older I began to look for a career path.  My sister-in-law invited me to support her (and my
brother!) at the birth of my nephew which led me down the birthing path...as I sought information on how to do a
great job for her I discovered the world of the doula.  A coach by nature and practice (I was a swim coach through
college), I found that it was a natural fit for me and loved every moment of it.  I spent several weeks volunteering at a
local hospital and was able to gain clinical experience in birthing from many incredible Nurses, Midwives,
Obstetricians, medical students and laboring mothers and their partners.  I acted as student, study-partner, go-fer
girl (go fer the juice, the blankets, the ice, the birth ball, etc..!), and doula, gaining experience and learning from
some of the best in the field.  Upon completion of this experience, I went into private practice as a doula, where I was
able to work with a variety of families in a variety of settings.  My interests expanded over the years and I began the
road to practicing midwifery through an intensive academic training and apprenticeship.

I  have completed the Midwifery Birth Assistant Training with the Birthing Inn and have worked as a Midwifery
Assistant to a local midwife.  I am certified in the Midwifery Management of Neonatal Resuscitation, CPR/First Aid,
and spent several months as a student midwife with a local practice.  I am currently completing midwifery school
with a specialization in newborn assessments and look forward to practicing in Seattle.

In 2007 I worked with the Washington State Perinatal Advisory Committee to rewrite the code related the use of
antibiotic ointment in the eyes of newborns and am proud that parents and providers can now have an honest
dialogue about this option and that parents have the right to refuse this if they so choose without compromising their
provider.

I have a passion for newborns and their mothers and currently offer
Boutique Perinatal and Parenting
Services designed to increase the health and bonding of the mother/baby dyad as well as  Doula Services.

I have completed the training for Parenting from the Inside Out and was certified as a Gottman Educator.  I worked
previously as the coordinator for a local Parenting Center as well as managing and developing the  Listening Mothers
program (
www.listeningmothers.org).

I love to write and to speak about birth, doula, and midwifery related issues, and have been published in the
international midwifery journal Midwifery Today, Dr. Chirstiane Northrup's Women's Wisdom newsletter, as well as
authored a guide for new mothers distributed by a local parenting center (40,000 copies were distributed in the
greater Seattle area).

I spoke at the Trust Birth Conference in Redondo Beach, CA in 2008 and in 2010 and teach advanced doula
trainings with my business partner, Jane Drichta.

I have attended over 350 births at a variety of homes, birth centers, and hospitals in the greater Seattle area.

I have completed certification course work for both labor doula and childbirth educator and continue my education
by attending conferences, classes and workshops hosted by a variety of organizations as well as participating in
research groups to keep myself up to date and aware of current issues facing birthing women.
