My General Birth Philosophy
I truly believe that our bodies and our babies know how to birth.  When we create the right environment which feels safe
and comfortable as well as provide a laboring mother with plenty of educational, physical and emotional support before,
during, and after labor and delivery we are creating a meaningful and substantial base for motherhood.  Birthing is a part
of what we do in our lives as women, and it is one of the many things we are capable of.

The steps that we use to accomplish what we are capable of is what makes it our own.  With birth, there is only one
certainty:  that each labor and delivery is unique unto itself.  While I have taken some part in around 250 births and I can
identify what helps it along, what hinders it, what will probably happen as your labor progresses, and what your provider
or nurse will probably do, I can tell you that your labor and delivery experience will, in the end, be different than the
others.  Each woman comes with her own set of tools and experiences which will deeply affect her birthing.

As a labor doula and childbirth educator I make it my mission to understand your unique tools and experiences,
personality and beliefs, fears and challenges.  I combine all that you have with the best of what I can give you to help you
achieve
your goals.  This looks different for every client.  Some women want to birth without medication or medical
intervention in the safety and comfort of their home or a birth center.  Some want to labor and deliver in a local hospital
and want help creating an environment of their liking and an educator they know will give them evidence-based
information and support for their decisions.  Some just want to go in and see what it will be and want to know that
whatever they decide they will have a personal support system and human dictionary to help them navigate their way.
Some have birthed before with an epidural and want to try birthing without one.  Some have had cesarean sections and
want to have a successful Vaginal Birth After Cesarean.

My philosophy is simple.  If you are expecting a child and expecting to participate in the birth of that child I will support
you in any and every way I can.  I work well with women who have birthed with an epidural and women who birthed their
children into their own hands in a birth tub.   I have taught women who knew nothing more than what they have seen on
television who went on to have active, empowered births.  I have taught women who had taken many classes and read
every book they could, one of whom said, "I feel like I learned more from you in the last five minutes than I did in 10
hours of class time [at another class]".
