Facility Name: Overlake
Advice from: Labor Doula
Advice Date: May 2004
I am struck at Overlake at the mere positioning of the bed in the room. It is the main feature and does not leave
any room for a mom who is birthing without medication to move. The bath was nice but the bathroom a little
cramped. Dad should ask for a short stool to sit on to be near mom in the tub. The nursing staff was very nice
and friendly. The nurse we worked with was very unfamiliar with what labor looks like in a woman who is not using
medications. She did and said a lot of things which could have undermined the labor easily without immediate
accountability and positive reinforcement for mom. But she wasn't mean about it either which made the whole thing
a little more workable. Best advice: Go in with a really savvy partner or support person who can ask for what you
want and back it up if need be!
