Welcome to SeattleBirthNet

Childbirth Education and Labor Support for Expectant Families
It's a fair question!

Here's the answer:

**What we do matters to women
**I get more requests for working with women than I can take so I like to be able to give them a
big list to go to--the option of not having a doula just shouldn't be an option!
**Sometimes I am not a great fit for a particular woman, but maybe you will be!
**Supporting my peers is important to me and I believe I learn more by working closely with
other doulas

And Finally,
I really am stunned by the magnitude of what we do sometimes--the incredible power in it.  It's
just being there for that
one birth that comes along where a doula's presence allows a mother
to participate so fully in the process and do what she wouldn't have without a doula--all of us
change the lives of the mothers and children in such a deep way and I really do love all my
doula sisters for staying out there on the front line, wiping the sweaty brow, holding the
ponytail back while she vomits, our faces in the muck of it--all with consistency, calm,
encouragement, and all done from a place of love for women as they become mothers.

And I really believe we have the power with us to change what is happening in birthing today
in our areas of practice.  We don't have to wait for a shift in the medical community
(again!)--let them swing from the pendulum vine--we know that birthing has taken place since
the beginning of time in just the same way as it will continue to do so long after we're gone
and we can help be a catalyst to bring that message to expectant women.  A voice of strength
from a source of experience for the ability she has built into her at a cellular level is a
powerful thing.

By providing easy access for expectant families to hear from as many doulas as possible,
birthing in our Seattle area can improve.

Go Doula Sisters!
